Combat is the core mechanic of Monster Legends.
Basics[]
Battles are between two teams of monsters. Each team is comprised of not more than three monsters. The object is to defeat all monsters on the opposing team.
Only one monster attacks each turn. Turn order (displayed at the top of the screen) is determined by all monsters' relative speeds. Monsters have up to four skills to select from, each causing varied damage and effects. As monsters are knocked out, the speeds and turn order are recalculated.
Elements[]
Each element deals 2.5× damage against a monster with the corresponding weak element:
Each element is also weak against itself and deals half damage. Dual element monsters typically have the combined weaknesses and resistances of both elements. However, if an attack would be both strong and weak against a hybrid monster (if a fire skill targeted a nature/fire monster for example), the weakness will override the strength and the damage will be halved.
Element | Strong vs | Weak vs |
---|---|---|
Nature | Magic | Nature |
Fire | Nature | Fire |
Earth | Thunder | Earth |
Thunder | Water | Thunder |
Water | Fire | Water |
Dark | Earth | Dark |
Magic | Metal | Magic |
Light | Dark | Light |
Metal | Light | Metal |
Special Skill[]
Each monster also has a unique, powerful special skill that costs no stamina. The ability to use the special skill, however, is randomly generated. On the first turn, the chance of being able to use the special skill is 0%. On the second turn, the chance is 1%. On the third turn, the chance is 2%. Lastly, on the fourth turn (and every turn thereafter), the chance is 3%. Once a special skill is used, the probabilities reset and the process begins again.
If a player chooses to not use an available special skill during that monster's turn, that special skill will still be available to use on the monster's next turn.
