Lore[]
The petty king of a small Reign, Enkidu’s nation rose to prominence during the War of the Thousand Summers. His fighters were strong and heartless, and Enkidu thought of nothing except crushing his enemies. But one night, he had a vision that changed him and, ultimately, the world.
In the dream, a mysterious figure showed Enkidu how every Reign was innately connected. His blackest enemies were of his blood, his people, and he was part of theirs. There was no justification for this war; they were only fighting themselves! If society were ever going to evolve past being a loose collection of squabbling fiefdoms, they would all have to put aside their differences and start working together.
When Enkidu awoke, he immediately put his unification plan into action…but it wasn’t popular, especially at first. Too much blood had been shed on all sides for most monsters to relish the idea of working side-by-side. Enkidu even lost his closest companions, Isetis and Osirous, on the day he signed the unification treaty.
Enkidu, against all odds, had won. But his health and reputation had been destroyed in the Unification Crisis; he was exhausted. Enkidu granted the throne of the Free Reigns to one of his last remaining champions, a young warrior named Basthet who had shown incredible leadership skills during the Crisis. He then quietly took a role on the Queen’s council, writing the first known record of the law in Petra and staying behind the scenes.
When Enkidu died, Isetis and Osirous returned for his tomb-sealing ceremony and swore to protect Enkidu’s remains forever as penance for their abandonment. Basthet accepted their sacrifice, but as a test of their renewed loyalty, kept the fact that Enkidu would one day return a secret from them.
Trivia[]
